I have been on and off many psychoactive medications for years, and was just restarted on bupropion Hcl (Wellbutrin) as well as Clonazepam (Klonopin). I am also currently on Morphine Sulfate ER (MS Contin), Hydrocodone/APAP (Norco 10/325), gabapentin (Neurontin), Amphetamine Salts (Adderall) and citalopram (Celexa). I have experience in many other psychoactives and am a professional in fields related to pharmacology and healthcare. The specifics on this experience are as follows.

I have been out of Adderall for about a week until I can get back to my physician for a refill. To bridge the gap, I read that the dopaminergic properties of bupropion were markedly increased following insufflation as opposed to ingestion. I took a 150mg tab and prepared it in two 75mg doses (one per nare). Though I had read that it burns considerably, I have dealt with post insufflation burn of other agents before so I thought it would be no sweat. WRONG!

After half a line in one nostril, I couldn't continue as it burned so bad I recoiled instinctively. It was as harsh as being pepper sprayed by a law enforcement grade pepper deterrent (I have gone through voluntary law enforcement spray training with family members in the PD which requires trainees to be sprayed).

I couldn't breathe, and even after flushing my nose with water, saline, everything for 5 minutes it wouldn't go away. Finally, knowing that clonazepam (Klonopin) has a distinctive cooling effect when insufflated, I decided to quickly crush and insufflate a small dose of clonazepam to try to get the chemical cooling effect it exhibits. A minute or so later I finally began to see relief, and now am back to near base line. If I hadn't had the Klonopin, I would still be in hell and who knows what I would have done.

I will never try this again, and warn anyone else who does to have a serious backup plan to counter the excruciating burn. I have parenteral lidocaine I could have squirted in my nostril to numb it, but I was so chaotic with the pain I had no idea where it was and grabbed the first thing I could see (the klonopin) that had cooling or numbing properties.

I discourage all improper use of medications, but if one chooses to go down that road, be forewarned when it comes to snorting bupropion....

As for the effects aside from the above: minimal if any. Perhaps a very slight sympathomimetic effect, but so subtle it could be the adrenalin from the pain, placebo effect, or an effect from the clonazepam....
