DOSE:
5 mg oral Pharms - Dronabinol
2.5 mg oral Pharms - Dronabinol
BODY WEIGHT: 117 lb
Pain management patient, several abdominal surgeries out with a gastric system routed like no one else’s. Several medical issues. Lowest weight 89#, now up to a high of 117#. I was referred to a neurologist with muscle specialties. After eating, I would break out in sweats, start shaking, get heart arrhythmias and then have to lie down until it passed or I vomited. I was given a trial subscription of Marinol 2.5mg to be taken 30 minutes before each meal, three times a day.

I picked up my script and all the kids were safe in other situations. I chose mid-day in case of allergy, to which I have many. The pills are really small round BB type gel caps. (Small perfect spherical off-white objects that are slightly squeezable and able to tell filled with fluid). Easy to swallow. My doctor said it would give me the munchies without the high and help with the nausea. So I wait.
My doctor said it would give me the munchies without the high and help with the nausea. So I wait.
About an hour after ingestion I’m sitting watching TV when I notice my face is numb, breathing is okay and easy, no hives, and so no reaction. In very quick succession, I realize I am high. I use to think that burning breathless sensation with inhalation came from just that, yet I found I had that same sensation again. I sat around looking at my living room. Yep definitely high, high enough that I know I can’t drive in this state, I have zero tolerance for impaired driving. And I start to contemplate if I can adequately parent feeling this way. After a short period of time, around twenty minutes, vision changes are gone, cheeks and lips still numb, floating feeling gone and I absolutely have the munchies. I ate the same amount as I have been able to before and am disappointed as I had hoped to be able to eat more. But then after I eat, there is no sweating, no shaking, nothing. Within two hours unable to feel any effects. I decide to half the dose and take one pill and see how that goes for round two.

Dinner time, kids are home, I ask my ex to stay just in case and take my second dose. Biggest problem is Marinol has to be refrigerated and I like to put my meds in a dispenser by the week. Again about an hour later I have numbness of my lips and cheeks, minor vision changes. Very little active high, same as achieved off a one or two hit high. Munchies come faster while high lasts shorter period of time. Again food goes down and none of the horrible side effects I’ve had for three years. In my first week, I have had vast improvement in quality of life. I have slowly been able to eat more in a sitting, no cramping; no heart arrhythmia changes after eating and most important no vomiting in a week. This is incredible as I have been vomiting up to several times a day for the last three years.

Thanksgiving was a little trying as there was so much interaction I felt like a kid trying to talk to dad without him catching on I was buzzed. Hard to change topics quickly, stay on track, too much to concentrate on.

I will definitely keep taking my Marinol, in the safety of my own home or only with a designated driver. I have noticed my body is coping well and quickly adjusting as the Dr. said I would. Pros outweigh the cons. Would be big disappointment for anyone expecting to experience a high equal to inhalation of marijuana. On the other hand Teetotalers might find the first few weeks of “high” disquieting, but I urge them to hold on and see if their body adjusts, while staying open with the prescribing Doctor.
