After reading reports on Kanna (kougoed, Sceletium, Bushman's ecstasy) I decided to share a few opinions and experiences. Living in South Africa makes Sceletium quite attainable. My little endeavor with Kanna started with my ganja suppliers giving it as an extra bonus.

Smoking it yielded mild to little results and was for the most part bad-tasting and of no-significant or desirable effect. After a few years of touch and go, another big bag of kanna was thrusted upon me.

I started to snort the kanna, grinding it as fine as possible. This I found to be the most rewarding method. Three finger pinches snorted, burns the nose and has an almost pleasant herbal after-drip down my throat. I doubt I will be able to snort more in one sitting. The effects are that of a light cocaine buzz with the edginess replaced by a dreamy yet sociable state (guess that's why its called bushman's ecstasy, but I prefer comparing the effects to cocaine than ecstasy). I enjoyed this thoroughly for a while, snorting every morning before class gave me a relaxed, spacey, talkative feel. Eventually I became worried over snorting so much plant matter and stopped. I thought about Kanna now and again but overall it was easy to lay off.

I believe the perceived addictive properties are wildly exaggerated (I have a highly addictive nature), though mental addiction is probably possible. Personally I have never heard of someone with a kanna problem ha ha. Coming from a reasonably experienced psychedelic user living in South Africa I would say kanna is lovely, but nothing to get over-excited about. Concerning other rarities from Southern Africa, Wilde Dagga or Lion's Tail should not be bothered with, the effects are minimal if not bordering on placebo. I enjoy kanna, and will try it as always...when it comes around...for free. The Khoi-san had special ways of harvesting and preparing kanna, I have experienced various potencies (nothing crazy) whether this is due to expiry date or preparation is still a mystery to me, very little research is available, but I feel safe with kanna.
