1.5 pods oral Poppies - Opium (liquid)
BODY WEIGHT: 170 lb
Well, my brother had aquired some dried pods from a friend when he had trouble with insomnia. I had never heard of poppy tea before this and was interested to try it based on his experience. I had smoked opium before and had enjoyed the few experiences I had had with that. He had three pods left that I would split between a friend and myself. I expected them to do not much at all. That couldn't have been further from the truth. I should also preface this by saying that I take wellbutrin daily so that may or may not have contributed to my reaction.

I prepared the poppies by grinding them down to dust with a coffee grinder and then pouring the powder in two cups of grapefruit juice. I let that sit for about twenty minutes. I then brought another two cups of water to a temperature just below boiling. I dumped the grapefruit mixture in the water and let that stew on heat for another twenty minutes. I then turned the heat off and let it return to room temperature before drinking it. I did not strain anything as I believed that injesting every last bit would give me the best possible chance for a reaction.

Well, about 1/2 an hour after downing the tea my friend and I both started to feel a bit heavy. After that the heaviness intensified and was accompanied by a strong euphoria which lasted about two hours. At this point I was satisfied with the intensity of the brew, and surprised and was starting to hope that would be all. It was not. The heavy feeling increased and the euphoria started to dissipate. It got to the point where I was so dizzy I could no longer stand. I tried to urinate at one point and it was almost impossible. Even after five hours I was still firmly planted to the couch on my back unable to move becuase of nausea. At the six hour mark I started to experience 'nodding'. I was unable to keep my eyes open no matter how hard I tried and was in reality not really tired. This continued until I finally decided enough was enough and it was time to sleep. I was mildly afraid that I might not wake up, or that I might choke on my vomit in my sleep. Luckily, I suppose, as I stood up to walk to the bed I was overcome by an overwhelming need to vomit. Which I did. I lay down to sleep and was forced to run to the bathroom a second time to vomit. Mind you this was about eight hours after ingesting the tea. There was zero let up in the effects so far.

I fell asleep only to awake in the morning feeling exactly the same. I had to cancel several appointments for the day and I ended up vomiting again. I spent the rest of the day in bed with nausea trying to hold down food and water. The following day the nausea was gone but a slight sense of vertigo remained. All in all the negatives far outweighed any positives and this will be the last time I drink the tea.
