DOSE:
90 mg oral DXM (liquid)
BODY WEIGHT: 130 lb
Right now I'm about four hours in to my first foray into DXM usage. It's been a nice evening.

First, a bit about me. I'm a relatively small female who has always been sensitive to drugs, chemicals, herbs, or what have you. Prescription, recreational, whatever -- I just tend to react strongly to what goes into my system. So I've been very careful with DXM, and started at the low end of the recommended dosage range for the first plateau for someone of my weight. I know that this amount probably would do nothing for most people, but hey, it's a hell of a lot easier to bump up a dosage than to un-take something. Basically, I’m trying it out to see how my body reacts to it, and to see whether I’d want to take more in the future.

I also read most of the DXM FAQ before I decided to have my bit of fun, so I sort of knew what I was getting into.

I didn't find it difficult to take the DXM. Ok, cough syrup doesn't taste great, but it's not awful. In my case, it worked out to 60 milliliters, which isn't much. I guess I should also note that I took this on an empty stomach, and wasn't taking any other meds or drugs at the time.

Within 20 minutes of taking the DXM, I did start to feel slightly intoxicated. Not drunk by any stretch, but just relaxed, a little drowsy and floaty. I also found that when I was looking out the window (it was a very bright day) that the brightness from the natural light seemed to spill over into my room, in flashes. It wasn’t an unpleasant experience, just a little weird…

One of my housemates came home about 45 minutes after the initial dose, and I was perfectly capable of having a conversation with him. Actually, one of the most interesting and unexpected effects of the DXM so far is the way that it lowers social inhibitions. I found that I was able to have a very real, personal conversation with my housemate that I've wanted to have for a long time...but just never worked up the courage to. (It was about him having Asperger's syndrome, which I'd suspected for a long time because my brother also has it, but I was never able to ask him about it...before tonight.)

Anyhow, about 90 minutes from the initial dosing, I managed to cook dinner for my housemates without burning the house down or doing anything else crazy. Still feeling relaxed and slightly woozy, but unlike with alcohol, the effects didn’t seem to be diminishing (yet). Nothing wrong with that. No side effects at this stage, either. I’m 99.9% sure that no one noticed that I was ‘on something’, though I did notice that I talked more than usual at dinner. Must have been that whole lower inhibitions thing. I also noticed that I had less of an appetite than usual, but once I started eating, I was fine.

I did have some nausea and queasiness after I ate (about two hours after dosing), which isn’t normal for me, especially with food I’m used to. I never felt like I was going to throw up, but it wasn’t pleasant. It passed within about 15 minutes, though I also started feeling quite dizzy, to the point that I had to go to my room and lie down. That seemed to resolve the dizziness.

I’ve just been resting for the last couple of hours, catching up on email, listening to music. I haven’t had any of the auditory effects of DXM, like music being more intense or pleasurable.

All in all, it’s been a good time. For me, it’s comparable to the buzz I get after having two or three drinks, but not anything more intense than that. The effects are certainly longer lasting than with alcohol, which is good by me, and the physical side effects have been minor. All I was looking to get out of the DXM was a little relaxation, something to take the edge off, and that’s exactly what I got.

I’m intrigued.
