1 g oral Mushrooms - Panaeolus cyanescens (dried)
  2.5 g oral Mushrooms - P. cubensis (dried)
BODY WEIGHT: 11 st
A recent expedition into the bemushroomed real ms turned dark…

Three of us, all good friends, were involved. One of us took 1g of dried ‘Hawaiian’ Copelandia cyanescens, which are known for their potency. Two of us (myself included) took 1g dried Copelandia and 2.5g Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms.

The come up, surprisingly, was the easiest part of the trip, when often it is the hardest part. Very quickly the mushrooms enveloped our brains, spreading through our brains like ravenous mycelium. At some point, one of our group, who had taken 1g of dried Copelandia, left to lie down, having a hard time, and then proceeded to completely unravel and have monster of a bad trip. However this person has had a history of losing his mind on mushrooms. I have never ever seen someone have such a bad trip on mushrooms. This would become the focus of our trips for many hours.

At the same time, we had quickly realised that combining mushroom species was a very foolish move on our part. I had done the same after ingesting some B. caapi vine, and the trip was very intense, yet guided. This experience was my darkest mushroom experience to date. The mushroom STRONGLY disapproved of being mixed with different species (different species, different characters). The mushrooms responded to our lack of respect by making us feel sick and lethargic for quite a few hours, and producing dark trips.

I experienced some revolting transformations of reality, some quite hellish visions, and was permeated with a feeling of anxiety and unease throughout the peak of the experience. For a time my pulse was also increased rapidly. We were unable to do much to help our friend who was going through hell, as we were in our own hell. All we could do was sit with him and assure him his suffering would pass with time.

My friend noted that during this time he appeared very distorted, with quite horrifying scars on his face. Looking into his eyes, was the creepiest experience my friend described however. During the time, our friend going through hell, appeared vacant. My friend looked into his eyes, and didn’t see him at all – just a lump of flesh, a zombie, some human machine prototype. This, obviously, he found deeply disturbing.

At one point, while we were all feeling ill and experiencing quite dark trips, a housefly started buzzing around the darkened room, and immediately I thought of death and decay. At one point, my friend sent up a prayer for our catatonic friend to be returned to us. A minute later, he stirred and spoke, for the first time in hours, and was back in his head.

After the peak, we all felt better. The nausea and anxious feelings began to recede, and we smoked a few joints and had a chat about the experience.

It is strange, I had more insights on this, the darkest of mushrooms trips, than perhaps any other. It was more rewarding surviving it and returning to sober mind, and I felt that I had gained more, than from some of my more blissful trips.
I felt that I had gained more, than from some of my more blissful trips.

Even our friend, who went through torture, still reported some very profound insights, and had no regrets about the experience.
I guess the motto of this story is – respect the fungus. Have intention, try and approach the experience in a ritual setting, and DON’T mix species…this shows great respect for the individual mushroom’s character.
