I am an English student, 20 years old, just under six foot and fairly light. I am fairly well versed in the more widely available drugs around; I have smoked marijuana nigh on habitually for the last three to four years, and in addition am a big fan of psychedelic drugs (particularly magic mushrooms and LSD). Prior to this experience, my housemates and I had managed a four-day binge on MDMA; we waited for two days of a hangover before wanting to try something new.

I realised the one branch of drugs I would always be intrigued about, but never truly try, were the opiate related drugs. I remembered one of my old friends from back home talking about Blue Lotus - how certain legal plants still contained naturally occurring opiates. I took a look online and bought 15g dried leaf.

The Preparation

On the night my friend and I decided to take it, I had a couple of beers before the night really started. While drinking, I boiled the kettle and steeped the leaves in boiling water, leaving it for about twenty to thirty minutes and stirring at regular intervals. Eventually we squeezed the leaves out and threw them, pouring out two cups of tea. The other person drinking with me (call her Anne), decided against adding milk or any sugar, and the two of us sat down to take the brew in front of the TV.

The Experience

Having tried a large number of different brews (magic mushrooms, natural mescaline, Kratom, leaf of God), I was surprised by how nice the brew actually tasted. Lightly fragrant and reminiscent of a pot-pouri taste. The brew disappeared fairly quickly, and once ingested, we decided to go outside and smoke a couple of spliffs.

At the ten minute mark, I felt a little bit stoned and perhaps a bit more tipsy than I usually would do after drinking 3 beers.
20:00 - After twenty minutes I began to properly feel it; a relaxing flow through the entire body similar to some opiate experiences I’d read online. I felt very lethargic and was coming up slightly faster than Anne, who said she could not notice anything yet.
30:00 – I start to get very giggly around this point, sometimes having short bursts that last for five minutes before disappearing. The physical feelings get stronger, and I feel completely warmed and relaxed. Anne starts to come up around this time, and follows all the experiences I had, but 5 minutes behind. This is slightly more bizarre than I would normally expect, and watching the film ‘Sleepy Hollow’ seems very surreal and difficult to follow.
60:00 – Get a call from a friend an hour later, hard to make much sense of what he is saying. Very strong mental high now – almost a MDMA style buzz but far softer and more soporific. Getting into very intense discussions and feeling very akin to other people
90:00 – Feelings start dying down. I am unable to sleep, pleasantly floating in a calm comedown unlike any other I’ve had.

Overall, this was an amazingly worthwhile experience. For only 5 pounds (£2.50 between two) this was a strong drug; the difference between this and other drug classes was very apparent.
NB – One thing I did notice having tried the drug twice more is there are (in my opinion) definitely aphrodisiac qualities to this drug when taken in smaller doses…again, quite the interesting drug!
