Be Careful With Lorazepam (Ativan)

I would just like to quickly relate a recent serious problem I had with Ativan (Lorazepam). It was Apr. 6 and having had a rough week I (without doctor consent) decided to abuse my perscription of Ativan. I remember only very little from Apr. 6 until Apr. 12, but I do remember taking 2-4 mg every 4 or so hours throughout the time period. Anyway, by Apr. 10 I was extremely emotional, and it's like a dream now. I was just sitting there crying, I at some point wrote a suicide letter, during which my brother called.. possibly saving my life. I remember he picked me up and took me to the ER were I was actually given an additional 6mg of Ativan to 'calm' me down. I guess I could barely stand up, and was either talking extremely fast, or sobbing uncontrollably. Depite not having a history of alcohol abuse or even use, I was listed as being drunk until blood work came back, the blood work revealed nothing. The idea that the Ativan has anything to do with it was (and still is) considered absurd to them. I would also like to note that I was transfered to a psychiatric center where I guess I became spiteful (but non violent) trying to leave the building, name calling, and being uncooperative. None of this is in my nature.

Also, by the 10th I was extremely apathetic, disregarding work, family, etc..It's hard to explaint how I felt, because it's like watching a movie with scenes cut out, or reading a book with missing pages.

I'm not sure if this will help you or anyone, but I really feel compelled to relay my story, as it seems the doctors here were completely ignorant of the possible mental effects of benzopines.
