I believe there are 2 kinds of nitrous users: the casual laughing gas inhalers, and the 3-balloon 'passer outers'. I am a passer outer. Basically, if I am inhaling nitrous, and not reaching this certain plateau of effects, then all it will do is make me feel funny and giggle a bunch or whatnot.
The technique I used to move into this higher N2O realm is as follows. I would prepare myself with 3 whip cream chargers, a small cracker, and 3 balloons. I would fill all 3, and set the cracker aside. Then I would breathe deeply for about 10 seconds, then let all of the air out of my lungs, and take in the first balloon. I would hold this for about 10-20 seconds, then blow it all out and take the next balloon. It is crucial to not breathe in any regular oxygenated air inbetween balloons. After blowing out the 2nd balloon and taking in the 3rd, I would hold it in as long as possible...
This is when I usually experience the oblivion. Somewhere inbetween the 2nd and 3rd balloon hit, I sort of lose my mind. It's almost as if I seperate from my thoughts, and witness them occur. I mentally pass out, and go into a sort of trance where I am not in control of my human will. In real-time, it only lasts maybe 1 or 2 minutes, but in perceived time it can feel like 45 minutes has gone by. It is indescribeable.
I call it passing out. My friends have watched me do it, and they say nothing strange really happens during this 1 to 2 minute period. I breathe normally, and sort of just sit there with a glazed look on my face, and my eyes either open or closed. When I come to, I only have vague remembrances of what I experienced, but I always believe it to be something cosmic. It feels as if my brain operates on a higher level--perhaps a taste of enlightenment. Since discovering this insane trip that can be had, I refuse to do single or double hits of nitrous. They just don't get me where I want to go.
When I am taking nitrous by myself, I simply employ the policy of taking continuous hits until I 'pass out'. Sometimes it takes 4 chargers, but it is usually 3 if I am doing everything right. It is crazy because the nitrous will begin taking over my brain, as I'm trying to reload more in the cracker, and it will become physically impossible. The come-up is very abrupt and intense. I usually don't like to do them around other people, as I cannot summon an ego to relate to other people with once I come down. I have seen God, and casual conversation pales in comparison.
Maybe this is something that other experienced nitrous users have figured out too, and I hope so. I have done many drugs, but this 3-hit wonder I have tried to describe simply blows them all away. Thanks for letting me share.
