To start everything off, I will tell you a little bit about myself, without going into extensive detail. I am a 21 year old college student about to obtain my real-estate lisence. I am self employed at the time and a succesful entrepreneur. I have a loving family, friends, intimate relationships here and there ;), and a daily routine, of which includes taking Xanax XR for severe anxiety disorder. To give you a brief description of my drug expierences, I have been on drugs and off drugs which includes good old mary jane, morphine, numerous other opiates (which were never prescribed to me, obtained through dealers), mushrooms, (kubenzis), DXM, and of course alcohol. Now looking through this list you might think I have an addictive personality, which may be true, but I never did any of these drugs daily with the exception of herb.

I hold no biased opinion against Xanax, it has helped my condition tremendously, I will simply tell you how it has effected my life both good and bad. I was prescribed generic alprazolam, (.5 footballs) aprox. a year and a half ago, and would be considered by the docs a long term user. At first my dosage was 1.0mg daily as needed for panic attacks. Well as my tolerance grew so did the dosage. Before I knew it, I found myself going through bottles of 60 pills intended for a month give or take a few days, in six to eight days. When I needed more all I had to do was call up my pharmacy, and the doc gladly refilled my script. My friends noticed a difference in my personality, but I didn't care, as long as I had my beloved downer everything was cool. Well after about six months of this whirlwind, which seemed like two weeks, I finally realized that I might have a problem.

Note to everyone out there: I have been on week long morphine binges and experienced severe withdrawal symptoms, I have taken vicodin many times and stopped cold turkey, and the withdrawl sucks, but I have never experienced a rebound like Xanax. The problem is Xanax gives me synthetic comfort, and when it is taken away I would compare it to taking away my nice warm winter coat in the middle of a snow storm. Well I managed to taper myself down in a period of three months down to 2mg of the footballs daily, and told my doc to switch me to the XR, (extended release), which helped the rebound. I have managed to keep my dosage to a stable 2mg. daily and have no desire to up my dosage with the XR.

In conlusion, the addiction sneaked up from no where and I found myself wondering, when did my life start revolving around a bottle. I still enjoy everything I love doing, cars, skiing, girls etc., but now I have a new best friend that I think I will have for the rest of my life named Xanax.
