A Dream Experiment
5-HTP, Melatonin & Nymphaea rubra

Citation:   Behr. "A Dream Experiment: An Experience with 5-HTP, Melatonin & Nymphaea rubra (exp111343)". Erowid.org. May 11, 2018. erowid.org/exp/111343

DOSE:
100 mg oral Tryptophan - 5-HTP (capsule)
3 mg oral Melatonin (pill / tablet)
1 mg oral Vitamin B-6 (pill / tablet)
BODY WEIGHT: 125 lb
This experiment is happened because I happened to possess all three of these dream supplements at the same time. I used 5-HTP 100mg Capsules, 3mg Melatonin Caplets (which also contain 1mg of Vitamin B6 per caplet), and Nymphaea Rubra (An uncommonly used species of water lily that produces nearly identical effects to the Nymphaea Caerulea) vaporized four times, two five-minute sessions per bowl. All of which were consumed one hour before bed.

Here is my process before falling asleep: I climb into bed and lay on my back during the first 20 minutes or so of trying to fall asleep. I do this for 20 minutes not by choice, because by this time my lower back starts to get sore and I end up rolling over to my side (though my back is improving). During this time, I tend to say a few mantras to get me in the mindset for dreaming. It may be just the word 'lucid', or 'I can lucid dream'. The most important part of my mantras are my word choice. I try not to use words I associate with day time. Instead, I use more mellow and relieving words like 'lucid' or 'can'. I don't say 'will', because that personally instills a competitive type mindset that may make it difficult to fall asleep.

I usually work on my visualization after my mantras, and prioritize visualization of past dreams. I do this to perpetuate the results of a dream journal by breaking down what can and can't be real, and really trying to embed that into my long term memory in order to become aware in my dreams. After this phase, I will keep my mind awake for as long as possible with the level of relaxation I would get just before going unconscious. I find this helps me drift into dreams far easier. So with that process of mine being thoroughly explained, I was consistent with it for this experiment.

The Dream Report:
Wow. Talk about vivid. When I mix these substances, it makes me feel like I'm actually there sometimes. I remembered two near-full dreams from that night.

In the first dream, I approached an old wooden house in mid day. I believe it was somewhere next to a tree line and vaguely close to the roads. I was with two other people that I didn't recognize, and we were approaching the front porch which had horizontal 2x4 boards each spaced evenly (2x4 board, 2x4 space, so on) over where a door would be. Each board had a name written on it, though I can't recall what the names were other than the bottom one having a name starting with 'V'.

We heard moaning and groaning coming from inside the house, and me being in a dream state assumed zombies. When we removed the board from the bottom, the noise from the house only grew louder until I was face to face with this weird deformed... thing. It looked like a female (maybe?) with long black hair that was nearly gone, thick wrinkly almost green skin, a tan color romper, and no shoes. It just stood there (menacingly) and looked at me through the boards. That's all I remember from that dream.

The second dream was where things got a bit weird. I found myself entering a brothel that had almost a fast food type efficiency where you just get pleasured and you leave. In the dream world, I think I was visiting this place pretty much every day because who the fuck wouldn't? It had a mahogany colored roof (similar to a TGI Friday's), lights hanging from the gutters and a large open parking lot. It had minimal windows, and I cannot for the life of me remember what the outer walls looked like.

On the inside, there were lines of people waiting for their specified woman to come in. There were old women, younger women, dressing rooms, bedrooms, mirrors all over, and pink walls in certain areas. There weren't cashiers, it was more or less just waiting for something to open up, you go in, do the thing, and get out. Needless to say, I abused this privilege for as long as I could in this dream world.

It was at this point that I woke up at around 4:30 AM just out of nowhere. I seriously have no idea why this happened, but it seems to have cut my dreams short.

However, it was very pleasurable as an experience, and really taught me more about myself. The one downside to this whole experience is that I woke up with a very very slight headache. I didn't really know what to make of it. It wasn't painful, it was just uncomfortable. Definitely worth noting though.
