The Trip:
It was a peaceful Sunday afternoon around 4pm and I just got home after the usual family lunch. I had two glasses of wine and was in a good mood to travel to the tryptamine universe. I have access to proper sterile IV equipment and decided this will be the way to go. It would be my first IV experience with any substance.
T+ 30 min
I decide on 4-HO-MET as I had only tried it once before orally and found it to be a very mild and forgiving substance. I have a small designated room for my research and started by cleaning the table surface with alcohol and preparing equipment for an IV administration.
T+ 10 min
Everything is laid out on the table in front of me and the thought of IV-ing something was making me a little nervous. Nevertheless, I continued with the preparation. I measured out 30mg of the fine white powder on my milligram scale and placed it in a small stainless steel container. I opened a sealed ampule of saline solution and added 1ml to the container. The 4-HO-MET was not dissolving very well in the saline solution and I added a little heat. After some good stirring it finally dissolved. I then drew up the solution through a 0.22 micron filter and loaded 0.5ml (=15mg) into a small diabetic syringe. Everything was set….
T+ 1 min
Reality hit me as I put the tourniquet on my upper arm the veins started to show in the antecubital area. My heartrate felt like it was going through the roof. The adrenaline rush alone was out of this world!
T+ 10 sec
Here we go! I inserted the small 28 gauge needle into the most prominent vein I could see. No pain, just a small sting. I slowly start to push the plunger in and empty the 0.5ml into my arm. I pull out the needle and a small drop of blood forms at the location. It is only at this stage that I remove the tourniquet.
T- 1 sec
Almost immediately after I released the pressure from the tourniquet I get blasted off into hyperspace… The most intense rush of my life! I am literally gasping for air! (It was not unpleasant but very intense. If I have not been at the experience level that I was it might easily have turned into an overwhelming situation!!) My entire body gets loaded with a strong electric buzz. My vision goes cloudy and the wall in front of me start breathing and pulsating with patterns and shapes. My body feels like 3 times its usual weight which forces me to lie back in the chair. There is a loud ringing sound in my ears, continuously varying in intensity and frequency, slowly fading as time goes by…
T- 5 min
I slowly start to acclimate to the intensity of the trip. It is still very hard to focus on something and standing up feels almost impossible. I try to relax my muscles and lie back in the chair again concentrating on the colourful display of patterns flowing across the dimly lit wall in front of me.
T- 15 min
Most of the rush has dissipated by now and I am able to stand up and walk around. Coordination is still off but manageable. I walk to the lounge and went to lie down on the couch. It was late afternoon with the last few hours of sunlight gently lighting up the room. The warm glow of the sunlight caressed my trembling body, inducing a deep relaxed state. I closed my eyes for the first time and noticed a distinct warm red glow. Not a lot of patterns but something resembling a flowing mass of red lava.
T- 1 hour
Most of the OEV’s And CEV’s is starting to fade. I am slightly nauseous, but it disappears as feelings of love and empathy take over. I continue to contemplate life and everyday challenges for the remainder of the comedown, still lying on the couch as the sun sets and darkness fills the room.
T- 2 hours
Pretty much back to baseline with a typical tryptamine afterglow. My body feeling a little exhausted. Feeling positive and happy to have had the opportunity to experience such a profound trip…
Conclusion
I think the IV administration of any tryptamine is a bold ROA but worth the experience within the right set and setting. There is virtually no come up, I basically hit the peak within a few seconds!
Regarding the substance… 4-HO-MET in my opinion it is not too confusing, quite visual, and easy to handle. Headspace is great but not as profound as some other tryptamines. Music enhancement minimal…
All in all a great experience!
