Have been taking melatonin since age 45. Began taking more supplements as I aged. At age 52 began taking Selegiline 1/4 of a 5mg tablet daily. The selegiline provides a dose of mental energy, clarity, focus and most of all motivation to get things done.
Around two years ago - I began to exhibit thyroid problems, mostly low thyroid activity. I opted not to receive thyroid medication, since it shuts down the thyroid and it must be taken for the rest of your life I began adding more supplements to my regimen, including a thyroid support supplement, containing b-vitamins, iodine, and some herbs. I also added branch chained aminos to help increase lean muscle mass which reduces as you age and leads to weight increase (also a problem with low thyroid). I added niacinamide, NAC, holy basil, b3, b12, d3 and finally centrophenoxine. I take the supplements in 2 doses, one in the morning one before bed.
For the most part it was positive, though I did have more trouble falling asleep, and my sleep was lighter. In the last two weeks I have noticed a different feeling in my mind, not good or bad just different. I have noticed I can remember better and my math in my head is easier and faster.
I have noticed I can remember better and my math in my head is easier and faster.
My latest thyroid test came back normal, I don't know which of the compounds or which combination did the trick, but it did
Take several years to come back to normal, so I doubt it was just the centrophenoxine, but who knows?
I have decided to stop the centrophoxine for awhile as I think it is making me hyper. I garden and usually feel calm when I do it, but yesterday walking thru my garden I found it difficult to focus and it did not calm me in the least it maybe just that the winter garden is not very lush or stimulating to the senses, so few blossoms and no insects this time of year.
I did notice the few age spots on my hands, fading after about 60 days on this compound. I much prefer the feeling and abilities, especially learning and motivation provided by selegiline, than the feelings from the combination of selegiline and centrophenoxine. I have used selegiline for approx 12 years with no major problems, I have since using it taken up electronic repair, guitar repair and have taught myself to play guitar, base and some piano. As well as built a garden encompassing substantial stone walls and leveling areas using hundreds of cubic feet of gravel and dirt all placed by hand and wheelbarrow. For a gent approaching 64 I have a good bit of energy and life within me.
I think the centrophenoxine is beginning to interfere with my guitar playing and my gardening, so I'm going to stop it for a while and see what happens. BTW I also hold down a full time job, so I think the melatonin and selegiline are a superb combination, and will consider occasionally using the cetrophenoxine, should I notice a change in memory or clarity of thought.
In summary I find Centrophenoxine to be not the kind of supplement I can take everyday. It did make a noticeable improvement in my mental clarity, but did increase hyper mania type of thought patterns and interfered with sleeping. Perhaps a lower dose would work better with my other supplements, and I may begin experimenting with capping up my own lower dose capsules and have acquired the powder to do so. Your mileage may vary.....
