25 mg | smoked | 4-AcO-DALT | (powder / crystals) |
1 bowl | smoked | Cannabis |
My previous experience with psychedelics includes psilocybin mushrooms, LSA seeds, bufotenin, DMT, LSD, 2C-B, 2C-I, 4-AcO-DMT, 4-HO-MET, 4-AcO-MET, 4-HO-DET, 4-AcO-DET, 4-HO-MiPT, 4-HO-DiPT, 4-AcO-DALT, DiPT, DALT, and at least a couple of unidentified things like psychedelic amphetamines and suspected TFMPP.
T-0:30 - I wake up from a strange dream about watching a city be overrun by dinosaurs from a skyscraper window, which included them roaring so loud that I could literally feel my head hurting quite vividly. The dream then ended with one of the dinosaurs suddenly looking our way and starting to speak in a vaguely British accent. With this weird thought in mind I laid in bed while trying to decide whether or not I was in the right mood to trip, based mostly on how I felt physically. Eventually I decided that I was feeling up to it and packed a bowl of 25 mg in my pipe between two layers of cannabis.
T+0:00 - There was a slightly harsh taste noted through the cannabis, which I didn't notice last time, but it wasn't that bad at all. The first thing I was expecting was a rapid onset like my previous trip, but as I kept taking hits as quickly as possible, things seemed to creep up slow. It now felt more like smoking 4-AcO-MET or 4-AcO-DET, which both distinctly give me some DMT-like rushing feelings and faint visual distortions for the first five minutes or so, and then the trip shifts into something mostly like taking them orally but a little bit more intense. The first time I tried this, smoking 15 mg, this very first phase actually managed to be extremely visual and both similar to DMT in the way I saw faces made out of tracers everywhere and similar to LSD in the colors and style of the visual patterning, but these effects were lost on this trip. Perhaps this intensity is only something that can be reached with extremely low tolerance, as that last trip was my first in several months.
Anyway, though I did find a lot of the similarities to LSD to diminish compared to last time, there were certain things about this effect that did remind me of DMT even more strongly than last time, though not the faces. Instead, I just felt a very strong sense of the world around me blurring away behind fairly impressive visual distortions, much more than I get from smoking an equivalent dose of the other 4-substituted tryptamines. These seemed to take on a mostly blue and green color scheme and were expressed largely in the form of breathing and smearing textures rather than complex patterns; in some ways I was reminded of the mild visuals of DALT, but those barely scratched the surface compared to this. During this, I also felt as though I was shaking and sweating slightly, but it was not a significant bother. Mostly I could just tell that something was building up strongly and I needed to patiently wait for it to peak so I could really enjoy it.
And, just as I thought it, things started to wind down a bit. I was now left in a place that, despite the smoother entry, was stronger where I was at this point last time. The visuals had gotten less overwhelming or disorienting but were still nicely present, and the music enhancement, which was only borderline previously, was now quite enjoyable. It was not unlike the way I feel about music on LSD, and that I don't usually expect quite as much from simple tryptamines. Another big bonus was, similarly to with 4-AcO-DET, I found that putting music on also dramatically intensified the hallucinogenic aspect of the experience, but this time it did so only briefly as it was already dwindling by then. Behind closed eyes, when the music started, suddenly I went from seeing vague color splatters into well-formed visions, but only dimly. Though I could compare these visions to other tryptamines and LSD as well, I have to say that the most noticeable thing about them to me was that they were nearly identical to 4-HO-DET and 4-AcO-DET (which I find identical in this way), in that they specifically began with flat but detailed perceptions of seemingly ordinary people surrounded by basic color backgrounds.
I cannot speak on these visions for too long as unfortunately they were already fading by the time I got them, but I will make what notes I can. The biggest thing that stood out to me that was different from 4-HO-DET is that it left behind its body image, which refers to the fact that 4-HO-DET for me always gives me a recurring image of an overweight security guard in a light brown uniform, and even though the colorful border and some of the mindset was lost in the switch from 4-HO-DET to 4-HO-DiPT, the women I saw in my visions on the latter were equally large. In both cases the feeling conveyed overall is actually a positive one if you can call it that, in that I got the sense that the weight reflected hedonism and overindulgence, which is perfectly fine with me in a recreational experience. On the other hand though, this 4-AcO-DALT instead showed me images of what on this first glance appeared to be two young girls, maybe around late middle school or early high school age. Rather than being one of indulgence, the feelings produced were more along the lines of nostalgia and empathy. Aside from this, the most significant thing to me about this experience was the fact that this trip seemed to have the same feelings of delirium accompanying these visions that 4-HO-DET and somewhat 4-HO-DiPT for me so far but not other tryptamines, like they could develop into a full dissociative state at the right dose rather than just providing lucid visions, and this intrigued me greatly. However, it was about this time that this part of the trip seemed to have passed.
T+0:15 - At this point I went into the swirly talk thread and made a few notes about how I was feeling and made sure I remembered some of the things that I have now already written down again here. It took me good few minutes to get it all out, and then I just kept lying down and listening to music for as long as I felt like I could really milk that enhancement effect.
T+0:30 - Around this time I decided to get up out of bed and go greet my roommate. I had a lingering sense of enhanced empathy while talking to him, but it disappeared quickly. Mostly the feeling was fading fast as we made conversation, and started taking a couple hits of a new cannabis bowl.
T+0:45 - By now I feel that there is nothing left but a non-distinct buzz which had my head feeling heavy and my skin feeling nice, but that's about it. A few minutes later I return to the swirly thread to make note of it.
T+1:30 - After watching a fascinating video about Zipf's law, I make myself a bowl of cereal, savor it, and then start writing this trip report. By now I am basically back to normal.
In the end, I now feel that this is a deeply intriguing substance, but I don't know if I plan to smoke it again. My first trial with 15 mg gave me the impression that it might be significantly more active when taken this was as compared to taking it orally, but this trip is starting to make me think instead that the increased duration of effects and easier ride up may be worth the extra substance as long as it doesn't take too much. The fact that it felt so similar to 4-HO-DET in those ways I care about particularly strongly has really made me want to try to at least reach its full oral potential once, as 4-HO-DET has definitely been my favorite tryptamine so far. Plus, the increased intensity of visual distortions surely doesn't hurt anything, or the better music appreciation. Ultimately, I am definitely excited about exploring with this one some more.
