As for the pot, well I had stopped due to the concern about piss tests and finding a new job. So it had been months since I had smoked anything. I did find a job, and while at work got talking to someone about the pain issue. He recommended trying spice. It apparently doesn't show up in drug tests (not all of them, but some) at this point in time. And seeing as it is a 'cannabinoid', I thought, 'why not'? He wound up giving me a small joint to try.
That night after getting home, I took my kratom, as I had been for the last couple of months. I find it does indeed help with the pain on its own. Part of my thinking was, 'will the kratom alter the effect of the spice'? And seeing as I still haven't smoked spice on its own, I really don't know. What I do know is that I was very surprised by what happened.
I had been sitting and watching a Talking Heads concert on dvd, really just relaxing. Not overly fired up about smoking anything to be honest. I've kinda liked being clear headed from the time I've been without pot, and I don't find kratom to cause the mental fog that pot does.

It took maybe 3 or 4 minutes, before I noticed anything. The first thing that ran through my mind was, this definitely doesn't feel like pot. I could tell that it was going to make me quite stoned though. So I really sat back and made a deliberate effort to relax. What came next is hard to describe. It felt almost like an acid trip, but without all the patterns, and visuals. (I did do LSD a number of times in my youth) The room felt like it was really small at first. Almost like I could reach out from where I was and touch the walls without moving. Physically impossible. Then this real sense of personal reflection came over me, like I was reliving moments in my life. Memories just flooded my mind. Good and bad. And I became VERY aware of the present moment, in a way that only psychedelics have ever done for me in the past. Suddenly like a revelation, it hit me..... I'm alive! I haven't died yet, and I do have the opportunity to make my life a better place, just as if God himself were giving a second chance. I became so grateful for my life, it was almost overwhelming. And then in the middle of this my wife walks through the door. Well I was hit with a tidal wave of love for her that just blew me away. I became so thankful for this beautiful, wonderful woman. That she was actually part of my life, and that she actually loves me. I just broke down and started crying.
Needless to say, she was wondering what the heck was going on. She came over to me, and all I could do because I was so overwhelmed with love, was to just hug her. After a moment, that felt like a long time, I explained that I had just smoked half of this little joint. She started to laugh. Then wanted to smoke the other half herself. She didn't get nearly half as much effect as I did, but was extremely high.
For both of us it was a totally positive experience. We both got pain relief, and slept like babies. She wants to try it again, when she isn't crampy, so we can make love while under the influence. I am convinced it was the combination of kratom and spice. Not the spice alone. I do want to stop the kratom for a time anyway, and this experience did help me to make that decision. I have been using it regularly for a few months, and like anything, it can become a habit that will become hard to break. The spice helped me to 'see' this.
I've since read up on the stuff, and see there are some negative reports. Paranoia being the biggest drawback. I didn't experience that at all. So with a little time, I do plan to try it more, see what it is like on it's own. And keep my fingers crossed that the laws will change regarding medical marijuana.
